Which mattress for back pain?

A good mattress does not cure back pain, but a bad one can make it worse. Here is what really matters for good support.

01

The goal: a well-aligned spine

When you lie down, your spine should keep its natural shape. A mattress that is too soft lets your hips sink and arches your back. One that is too hard pushes against shoulders and hips and creates pressure points. The right mattress supports your back while letting shoulders and hips sink in just enough.

02

"Firmer is better": not always

That is a myth. The right firmness depends mainly on your weight and sleeping position. A lighter person who sleeps on their side is often better on medium, while a heavier back sleeper will usually prefer firm.

03

By sleeping position

On your back: medium to firm support keeps your lower back well supported. On your side: shoulders and hips need to sink in; medium with comfort zones helps a lot. On your stomach: a firmer mattress stops your pelvis sinking and your back arching.

04

Why comfort zones help

With pocket springs arranged in zones, each part of your body gets different support: softer at the shoulders, firmer at the lower back. Try before you choose, and get advice if needed

Nothing beats a trial: lie down for a few minutes in your usual position at the showroom. And if your back pain persists, talk to your doctor or a physiotherapist: a suitable mattress helps, but it does not replace medical advice.
